SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team will look to make its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament as head coach Renee Jimenez announced the Cougars’ 2023-24 schedule on Wednesday.
“One thing we have always taken pride in is how tough our non-conference schedule is and this season is no different,” Jimenez said. “Our players understand the importance of the games we play in November and how critical those wins can become in March. We really want to be battle tested early and know exactly where we stand in the West Region as well as prepare ourselves for a tough CCAA conference schedule.”
The Cougars 27-game schedule includes 12 home games, eight games against 2023 NCAA Division II National Tournament participants, five games against non-conference opponents and 22 CCAA contests.
For the third consecutive season, the Cougars will open the season against Point Loma but this time will be at the CCAA/PacWest/GNAC Challenge hosted by Cal Poly Pomona. CSUSM will open the tournament against the Sea Lions on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. before facing Azusa Pacific the next day at 5 p.m.
The Cougars will then head to Azusa Pacific to compete in the 2023 Cougar Shootout and will play Western Washington on Nov. 17 before taking on Seattle Pacific on Nov. 18. Both games will have a 4 p.m. tipoff time.
In their final tune-up before conference play begins, the Cougars will host Saint Martin’s on Nov. 24.
CSUSM will open CCAA play in The Sports Center with a five-game homestand by hosting Cal State LA (Nov. 30), Cal State Dominguez Hills (Dec. 2), Cal Poly Humboldt (Dec. 7) and Chico State (Dec. 9). The Cougars will close out 2023 hosting Sonoma State on New Year’s Eve.
The Cougars will begin 2024 with four consecutive road games at Stanislaus State (Jan. 4), Cal State Monterey Bay (Jan. 6), Cal State San Bernardino (Jan. 11) and Cal Poly Pomona (Jan. 13)
CSUSM will return home to face San Francisco State (Jan. 18) and Cal State East Bay (Jan. 20) before closing out the month of January at Chico State (Jan. 25) and Cal Poly Humboldt (Jan. 27).
The Cougars’ final homestand of the season will feature Cal Poly Pomona (Feb. 1), Cal State San Bernardino (Feb. 3), Cal State Monterey Bay (Feb. 8) and Stanislaus State (Feb. 10).
CSUSM will conclude the regular season with a five-game road trip beginning at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Feb. 15) and followed by trips to Cal State LA (Feb. 17), Cal State East Bay (Feb. 22) and San Francisco State (Feb. 24). The Cougars will wrap up the year against Sonoma State (Feb. 29) for the second consecutive season.
Should the Cougars end the regular season as one of the top six teams in the conference, they will travel to Cal State San Bernardino for the 2024 CCAA Tournament on March 7-9 in Coussoulis Arena.
