Late Goal Raises Cougars to Victory Over SF State

SAN MARCOS, Calif – A Briana Daoust goal in the 87th minute lifted the Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team to a 2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory on Friday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Gators struck first with a goal in the 21st minute from Carly Ortega.
•CSUSM knocked in the equalizer just over 10 minutes later on a penalty kick made by Briana Daoust.
•Off a free kick by Harloe, Daoust headed the ball into the left side of the net to put CSUSM up 2-1 with just over three minutes to go.

QUICK KICKS •CSUSM moves up to 4-4-2 (3-2 CCAA) while SF State drops to 2-6-1 (0-4 CCAA).
•After a close shot count in the first half between the two teams, the Cougars dominated in the second half by outshooting the Gators 12-1.
•The Cougars held a slight advantage over the Gators in corner kicks at 5-3.
•With the two goals, CSUSM has broken its four-year goal drought against SF state.
•This is the Cougars first win in three meetings against the Gators in The Cage. They dropped a 1-0 decision in 2017 and tied 1-1 with the Gators in 2015.
