Laurel Elementary School marked a major milestone as the Oceanside campus celebrated its 70th anniversary with a joyful community gathering filled with nostalgia, pride, and inspiration.
The celebration brought together current students, staff, alumni, and community leaders to honor the school’s enduring legacy. A highlight of the event was the return of the Laurel Hall of Fame, an inspiring tradition that recognizes former Laurel students who have made meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.
Speakers included former Laurel students Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez, former NFL player Willie Buchanon, and community leader Terry Johnson, each sharing how their time at Laurel shaped their personal and professional journeys. Their stories underscored the school’s lasting impact on generations of Oceanside families.
This year’s Hall of Fame inductees were Christine Fuentes, now an Oceanside Unified teacher giving back to the community that once served her, and Ivan Perez, a senior vice president in the construction industry known for his dedication to youth mentorship and civic engagement.
