AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time in his career, senior Joshua Litwiller of the Cal State San Marcos men’s track & field/cross country team has been named to the Academic All-America Division II Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as he earned second-team honors on Wednesday morning.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America teams program. Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

The senior business administration major from Carlsbad came in with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.79. Litwiller had a cross country season to remember in the fall of 2019 as he became the first NCAA Division II West Region champion in school history. He was subsequently named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Runner of the Year. Prior to his regional win, Litwiller became the team’s first CCAA champion from a men’s team in program history and was named the CCAA Runner of the Year.

To go along with his All-CCAA and All-West Region honors, Litwiller went on to earn USTFCCCA All-America honors after placing 17th at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. He was one of seven Division II cross country student-athletes to earn both All-America and Academic All-America honors this season.

Litwiller previously earned Academic All-District honors for the second time in his career on May 29. Prior to this season, he was a three-time CCAA All-Academic Team honoree, a three-time All-CCAA winner for cross country and a two-time All-CCAA recipient for track & field. He was also named the 2016 CCAA Freshman of the Year for cross country.
