Local Candidates Emerge for North County Council Races

REGION — Tis the season for City Council announcements.

As such, the chess pieces are moving as candidates fall into place for City Council races in 2024.

A third candidate has jumped into the race for Carlsbad’s District 2, while in Oceanside, seven candidates are in line for the District 3 and 4 seats. Additionally, a Vista woman, who was named the Vista Chamber of Commerce’s Businessperson of the Year for 2023, has jumped into the District 3 race.

In San Marcos, one incumbent and a second-time candidate have announced their intentions to run, although no challengers have yet to file their candidate intention statements, according to city records.

As for political races, it has become commonplace for City Council candidates to announce eight to 12 months prior to an election to organize campaign committees to fundraise, work their networks, solicit endorsements, and lobby for any county political party endorsement (Democrat or Republican), which opens up a new trough of campaign donations.

While many of the candidates have filed candidate intention statements, the formal filing period doesn’t open until July 2024.
