The failing CA public school system has seen a mass exodus of students since 2020 that is not stopping, and more parents are choosing charter schools, private schools, or other alternatives, at least those who can afford to do so. Those who cannot are stuck in their particular district with no choice.
CA charter schools are part of the public education curriculum and have seen great success in preparing students for their future, with student performance outpacing those in the regular system. So now, Gavin Newsom, with the support of the California Teachers Association, is championing a bill (AB 84) that goes after Charter schools. Among other things it severely restricts the funding options and parental choices which have made thems so successful.
Charter schools give parents great flexibility in building their childrens’ curriculum, wtih a combination of at-home, distance, and in-person study. The CTA sees charter schools as a threat when in fact we could instead be working together to strengthen both the public and charter school system. We need a system which gives parents the control and flexibility vital to a child’s success.
We can improve education in this state by focusing curricula on core topics instead of ideology, measure teacher performance, allow parents to use 529 funds to pay for private education, and hire more teachers to reduce class size where necessary.
Together we can get back to the basics of education, and turn this ship around. I need your help and support to do this. I’ll go out and fight the fight, with your contribution of $100 or more we can continue to make our case and put power back in the hands of parents.
