Vista Irrigation District Division 1 Director, Marty Miller, has been elected to the 21st Chair of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, becoming the first Board Chair from San Diego County in Metropolitan’s nearly 100-year history.
“I am humbled to have the unanimous support of my colleagues on the Metropolitan Board to lead this agency for the next two years,” said Chair-Elect Miller. “I believe that by working together, building on our successes, and staying focused on what matters most, we can continue to secure a reliable water future for the millions of Southern Californians who depend on us.”
Miller has represented Vista Irrigation District Division 1, which stretches from Gopher Canyon Road to Vale Terrace Drive in Vista, since 2008. He has led the Vista Irrigation District Board as president four times and has served as Chair of the District’s fiscal policy, public affairs, water sustainability and Warner Ranch committees.
Miller has actively represented the District’s best interests through his dedicated service as the
District’s representative on the San Diego County Water Authority (Water Authority) Board of Directors
since November 2011. He is currently the Chair of the Water Authority’s Water Planning and Environmental
Committee. Miller also sits on the Water Authority’s Imported Water Committee and Resource Strategy Work Group.
At Metropolitan, Miller currently serves as the Chair of the Finance, Affordability, Asset Management and Efficiency Committee. Last year, he helped lead the process that ended with unanimous approval of the agency’s budget. Miller also serves as the vice Chair for the Ad Hoc Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity Investigations.
The District congratulates Director Miller being elected to Chair Metropolitan’s Board and thanks him for his continued dedicated service to both District customers and the San Diego region as a whole.
“It has been my pleasure working with Director Miller on the District’s Board of Directors for the
past 18 years,” said Board of Directors’ Vice-Chair Jo MacKenzie.
“This honor came from his hard work and dedication; I am extremely confident he will continue to represent the San Diego region and District’s ratepayers while serving as Metropolitan Board’s Chair.”
