CHICO, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos’ Ana Mercado posted the fastest time in Division II en route to earning this week’s CCAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 7-13.
Mercado ran the 800-meter run in 2:11.33 to finish second at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge at UC San Diego on Saturday. The freshman’s NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time is currently the fastest posted in 2022 by a Division II athlete.
Mercado, who is from Chula Vista, is now third on the Cal State San Marcos career list in the 800-meter run.
Her time of 2:11.33 is nearly a second faster than second-ranked Vanessa Aniteye of Seattle Pacific (2:12.31).
CSUSM competes next at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet at Point Loma on March 19.
