VISTA, CA (May 14, 2025) – Moonlight Stage Productions’ 44th season continues with Waitress, the first of three regional premieres, from June 4 to Jun 21.
Based on the 2007 film of the same name, Waitress follows the story of Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself. Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf. Featuring Sara Bareilles’ Tony-nominated score, Waitress celebrates the power of friendship, dreams, the family we choose and the beauty of a well-baked pie.
“We’re very excited to open the San Diego regional premiere of Waitress next month. For those who aren’t familiar with the show, it’s a beautiful score, but it may be a bit of a different story than our audience is used to. The characters in Waitress deal with real issues that we see people struggling with every day; you probably know a Jena, you know a Becky. It is incredibly relevant for our current moment. We’re also excited to continue the Waitress tradition of having an all-women creative team, Noelle Marion is directing, Katie Banville is choreographing, and Tamara Paige is our musical director. We hope everyone will come and enjoy a fantastic night under the stars!”

ABOUT THE MOONLIGHT & MOONLIGHT STAGE PRODUCTIONS
Winner of several San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Awards, including “Best Resident Musical” for 2019’s “West Side Story” and 2017’s “In the Heights,” Moonlight Stage Productions has been named “San Diego’s #1 Outdoor Theatre” by readers of ‘San Diego Magazine.’ Moonlight Stage Productions provides high-caliber Broadway musical theatre in the 1800-person capacity Moonlight Amphitheatre, owned and operated by the City of Vista. Audiences attend from throughout San Diego, Southern Riverside, and Orange Counties, making the Moonlight a regional destination for Broadway musical theatre. The Moonlight’s summer season of Broadway musicals is produced in the picturesque Moonlight Amphitheatre and has been a summertime tradition experienced by more than one million people since the theatre’s founding by Kathy Brombacher in 1981. Throughout the decades, the Amphitheatre has seen numerous transformations, but nothing as dramatic as the total reconstruction of the stage house in 2008-2009. A state-of-the-art venue was revealed with a grand reopening in June 2009, including a modern stage and audience facilities. Since then, the Amphitheatre has extended its entertainment offerings with the addition of the Moonlight Concert Series which provides musical entertainment all year. Moonlight Stage Productions is the cultural arts program of the City of Vista and is produced in partnership with the Moonlight Cultural Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports the programming at The Moonlight year-round in addition to offering youth education programs through Moonlight Youth Theatre.
