The Lakes Division recently replaced a wooden bridge over Jack Creek in the Dixon Lake Recreational Area. The original wooden bridge was installed circa 1993 which comprised of 2 – 40’ long recycled telephone poles that were floated across the lake and hoisted onto their foundations. A series of storms battered the old bridge which was beginning to rot and deteriorate to the point that the bridge became unsafe to cross.

Staff removed the old bridge in early 2020 due to the unsafe conditions and began planning a replacement bridge that would last for generations. Lakes and Public Works staff prepped the area and a giant crane reached out 200’ and dropped the new lightweight aluminum bridge onto its foundations on October 7th. This updated bridge across Jack Creek will greatly benefit the public who uses Escondido’s outdoor recreational areas.
