New Vista Sheriff’s Captain John Malan was on hand to speak to community members and share a cup of coffee recently at the Starbuck’s Coffee Shop on Hacienda, located next to Jamba Juice and across from Chick-fil-A in Vista. Captain Malan has only been in his position for a little over a week but said he is excited about his new promotion, meeting as many people as he can in Vista and working with community agencies on a variety of issues. Captain Malan most recently was the Station Manager in Ramona.

The Coffee with the Sheriff’s is held throughout the year and gives interested residents a chance to speak to officers and to pick up literature that will assist them in a variety of ways. At the most recent coffee residents could pick up material on:
The Deputy Explorer Program – www.sdsheriff.gov/recruitment/explorer-program
“You Are Not Alone” – a free program for our elderly community members – www.sdsheriff.gov

Info on protecting your car from theft – especially important during the holiday season
San Diego County Sheriff’s Department – Vista Station – traffic questions – vistatraffic@groups.sdsheriff.gov
There were officers present to discuss the Neighborhood Watch Program and stickers for homes that participate in the Neighborhood Watch Program. – for non-emergency questions or reports call 858-565-5200.

Information appears in the North County online papers when the Coffee with the Sheriff’s events take place and there is always literature available, and a number of officers prepared to speak with residents about the wide variety of programs they are in charge of.
