As I watch the firefight in Los Angeles, I am increasingly in awe of the first responders and everyone who has stepped up in these trying times. I feel for all who have lost their lives, their loved ones and their homes.
While we’ve been spared from wildfires here in Carlsbad, we did experience another round of Santa Ana winds over the past few days and there are more in the forecast for early next week. Because the fire threat remains, I wanted point you to the city’s emergency preparedness webpage and reiterate three best practices I shared last week:
Develop an emergency plan, including escape routes and essential supplies for 72 to 96 hours.
Register cell phones with AlertSanDiego, the countywide emergency notification system.
Download the Genasys Protect app, part of a new countywide emergency alert system.
In addition to our fire and police personnel, all city employees are considered disaster service workers. We train regularly to respond to emergencies like wildfires and have resources in place to help keep Carlsbad safe. However, public safety truly is a team effort with the community, so please continue to stay vigilant and be ready in the event of a disaster.
