Zappy’s Pizza in Vista first restaurant to participate in campaign to remind customers that providing alcohol to minors is against the law
[Vista, CA] For over a decade, the North Coastal Prevention Coalition (NCPC) has partnered with 20 local alcohol retail outlets to conduct ‘Sticker Shock’ campaigns as a reminder to customers that providing alcohol to minors is against the law.
As COVID-19 disrupts all aspects of our lives, NCPC’s Sticker Shock is no exception. Instead of sending groups of teens into local markets, NCPC and youth leaders are reaching out to new business partners that are popular with teens and young adults.
Alma Alvarez, the supervisor at Zappy’s Pizza, mentioned “North Coastal Prevention Coalition have been loyal customers to us throughout the years and we are happy to be collaborating with them to help combat underage drinking.”
Youth and young adult leaders will contact local businesses throughout the holiday season in the hopes of recruiting new partners.
Though underage drinking rates have been declining, COVID-19 poses new challenges with more teens isolated and fewer opportunities for extra-curricular activities.
With recent temporary regulation changes that permit more delivery options of alcohol and “alcohol to‐go” and a recent 65% failure rate by local businesses to properly check IDs during Alcoholic Beverage Control’s most recent compliance checks, it’s more important than ever that store clerks and delivery drivers ensure someone is 21 before completing a transaction involving alcohol.
Underage drinking is a community problem that everyone can help solve. Businesses like Zappy’s Pizza play an important role in helping to spread the message that providing alcohol to minors is against the law.
