North County Business Groups Align in Support of Ocean Kamp

February 10, 2022 (Oceanside, CA) — The San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) and Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, two of North San Diego County’s leading business organizations, have aligned in support of Ocean Kamp. A thoughtful mixed-use plan nestled off Highway 76 and N. Foussat Road in Oceanside, Ocean Kamp will create new housing, a state-of-the-art wave pool, hotels, parks and more. The business groups praised Ocean Kamp’s significant economic benefits, including the generation of $81.3 million in 10-Year Tax Revenue and creation of more than 1,500 jobs.

“Ocean Kamp will be an exciting destination that embodies the North County lifestyle and creates substantial economic, tourism and community benefits for the entire region” said SDNEDC Chief Executive Officer W. Erik Bruvold. “The SDNEDC believes that both the synergies with the region’s active sports, craft brewing and innovation economy cluster and the importance of new housing make Ocean Kamp an ideal addition to the Oceanside community.”

Ocean Kamp will provide a mix of uses and outdoor recreation opportunities that will benefit residents and visitors of Oceanside alike. At the center of Ocean Kamp, a 4.5-acre, state-of-the art wave lagoon will provide the opportunity for surfers, swimmers and paddle boarders of all experience levels to enjoy perfect water conditions year-round. Along the wave lagoon, Ocean Kamp will also provide an Airstream trailer camping park and a 300-room boutique hotel with private casitas. The community will also create several miles of public trails, 20 acres of open space, a public surfboard shaping bay, a mountain bike pump track as well as cultural and surf heritage exhibitions and displays.

“We are excited to welcome Ocean Kamp to Oceanside as it will create new jobs, revenue for the City of Oceanside and opportunities for local businesses,” said Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Scott Ashton. “Ocean Kamp’s vision will be a complementary extension of all the benefits of living and working in Oceanside. It will also provide needed inclusive housing opportunities, spaces for local businesses to grow as well as tourism and event facilities that will collectively be a long-term economic driver for Oceanside.”

Plans for Ocean Kamp include up to 700 new homes comprised of apartments, condominium units, townhomes and senior housing. At a minimum, five percent of onsite residential units will be deed-restricted as affordable housing units. In addition to housing and recreation, Ocean Kamp will create 134,000 square feet of commercial space including a mix of creative offices, medical offices, retail and restaurants, with a focus on local companies, purveyors and artisans as tenants. Ocean Kamp is expected to come before the Oceanside Planning Commission in the coming weeks with the goal of opening to the public in Spring 2024.
