Like so many others, Ke’Anna Dodds found herself unemployed as a private chef when the pandemic hit. But some quick thinking by the graduate of the prestigious Johnson & Wales University of Culinary Arts soon focused on a solution – an original barbecue sauce she created when just 15 years old. Now based in Vista, Dodds’ Rue Kitchen line of sauces has become an Internet sensation. Her OG barbecue sauce she stirred up years ago, as part of a fundraising drive for her brother’s Pop Warner team, became the bridge to a new career path. Chef Dodds also continues to serve as a private chef and caterer who focuses on southern and Creole cuisine. Listen in to her story captured in the culinary kitchen at her old stomping ground of Vista High School.

The City of Vista Economic Development Department developed a Vista Made video series to feature innovative businesses and entrepreneurs as part of its proactive outreach to support local businesses recovering from the pandemic crisis. The latest video featuring Ke’Anna Dodds debuts November 2 online at VistaIsOpen.com/VistaMade.
