North County Pipeline / North County Jobs Rise as Population Flatlines

SAN MARCOS — North County is adding jobs, but its population has barely moved, a widening mismatch pushing workers farther away and reshaping the region’s job mix, according to a new economic study.

The 2026 North County Indicators report released on May 7 by the San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) during its annual Economic Summit, describes a region strong on paper, more than 1.1 million residents and rising employment, but increasingly strained by an imbalance between job creation and housing supply, flattening population growth, and commuting patterns forcing workers out of the region.

North County’s population has grown by just 1% since 2020…..
