Oceanside Area of the California Highway Welcomes New Commander

Oceanside, California – On October 31, 2024, the Oceanside Area of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) welcomed Captain Bradley Palmer as the new Oceanside Area Commander. Captain Palmer transferred to the Oceanside Area after serving as the CHP Capistrano Commander overseeing the South Orange County region.

Captain Palmer is married with two children. He has lived in the Carlsbad area for the last 10 years, and his two children attend Carlsbad Unified School District schools. Captain Palmer earned a Master’s degree in public administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Bachelor’s degree in public administration from California State University, Chico. He graduated from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Academy in 2005.

Before serving San Diego County’s citizens, Captain Palmer was assigned to CHP Hayward Area office before being selected for a specialized assignment at CHP Headquarters within the Internal Affairs Section. He was promoted to sergeant in 2012 and continued to work in the Internal Affairs Section before transferring to the following Area Offices: Westminster, Border Division, Oceanside, and San Onofre Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2019 and has worked at the following CHP offices: West Los Angeles Area and Santa Ana Area. In 2019, Captain Palmer was selected as the CHP Border Communications Center Commander, where he served honorably until he was promoted to Captain and assigned as Commander of the CHP Capistrano Area.

Captain Palmer has been with the California Highway Patrol for nearly two decades and brings with him vast experience working in different roles and responsibilities. The communities served by the Oceanside Area include Carlsbad, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Bonsall, Fallbrook, Escondido, Valley Center, and Pauma Valley.
