The City has a bid out to stabilize and brace the Pier’s hammerhead, the widened west end of the Oceanside Pier closed since the fire. That work is expected to begin in October.
Once permits are secured, hammerhead deck, rail, and lighting repair will follow in spring 2027, and is expected to take about 8 months.
The west end of the Pier will reopen to the public once that structural work wraps up, ahead of the restaurant rebuild. The restaurant lease holder is still developing designs for that facility.
Separately, the white concrete pier bridge carrying you onto the Pier is also due for work. At nearly 100 years old, the 300-foot span has deteriorated and needs patching before it’s completely rebuilt.
The City is finalizing the design and a Program EIR for the reconstruction. Once the City Council approves that work, Phase 3 begins: permitting. The City has set aside $11 million toward what will be an $80 million project. Additional funding, including grants, is needed before construction can start.
In the meantime, crews will be patching deteriorated areas of the white concrete and hanging netting underneath for safety. You may notice scaffolding going up below the bridge for this work.
