Oceanside Police Launch New Crime Mapping Tool

A top priority for the Oceanside Police Department is the transparency of our policies, practices, and training. We believe that openness speaks to the integrity of this agency and builds on the trust and collaborative efforts we make in partnership with our community to combat crime.

Funded by the half-cent Measure X sales tax revenue, the Oceanside Police Department is proud to make additional steps in providing transparency and awareness with the launch of FirstWatch, a new online crime-mapping tool that makes it convenient for people to learn of crimes reported in areas that interest them. The map aims to provide a sense of calls that the Department is responding to, overall police response in the city, and enhance public safety. The data in the map reflects crimes as they have been reported to the police and is based on
preliminary information provided that may have not yet been confirmed. In the interest of safety for victims, witnesses, and officers, police incidents populate the map when the response is closed. The response information comes from the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This data is automatically updated and it provides information on the vast majority of crime categories. In keeping with the department’s policy, confidential information is not included on the maps. Please note, preliminary crime classifications may change based on follow-up investigations. Therefore, this information should not be used for in-depth analysis.

To view the FirstWatch crime map, please visit the Oceanside Police Department Website. Residents are encouraged to take a look at areas that surround their residence and places they frequent around the city to increase situational awareness.
