On Friday morning, 10 am, Oceanside High School Multipurpose Room, Last Mile San Diego Founder Amy Aminlari will contribute a large shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) to Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez, for the benefit of the city’s various communities hardest hit by COVID.

The PPE consists of 72,000 ½ liter hand sanitizers and 3,000 infrared thermometers.

Last Mile San Diego (LMSD) is a coordinated effort founded by San Diego Emergency Physician Amy Aminlari, a North County resident, who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and realized through her own experiences that other frontline providers and at-risk communities throughout San Diego County lacked access to adequate PPE.

Dr. Aminlari connected with Murphy’s Produce With Purpose for the generous contribution of PPE. Having found a source, she then reached out to various Labor organizations to deliver the PPE crates via big rig trucks to San Diego County. The trucks were driven by volunteers from Teamsters Local 542 and unloaded by volunteers of Ironworkers Local 229. Dr. Aminlari then arranged for storage to take place at Oceanside High School, for delivery to the City of Oceanside and other North County communities in need.

Dr. Aminlari, along with LMSD core members Yunuen Zimmerer and Alan Kenny, will be formally presenting Mayor Esther Sanchez with the critical shipment of PPE. Per Dr. Aminlari, “I felt an overwhelming need to do my part in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic. Without necessary PPE, we cannot protect those at risk and help prevent the spread. We are so grateful to Mayor Sanchez and the City of Oceanside, OUSD, Oceanside High School, Ironworkers 229, the Teamsters, and especially Murphy’s Produce with Purpose for making this delivery possible.”

Also present to mark the historic and generous contribution will be James Murphy and Rosie Montaño of Murphy’s Produce with Purpose; Johnny Swanson of Ironworkers 229; Alvin Mitchell and Jaime Vazquez of Teamsters; Josh Meyer, Director of Communications at OUSD; Oceanside High School Principal Jose Villareal; and Oceanside High School Lead Custodians Allen Sanders and Tommy Cabral.

Upon receiving the news, Mayor Sanchez reacted with surprise and joy at the generous contribution. “I am so grateful to Dr. Amy and Last Mile San Diego, Murphy’s, Oceanside High School, and the volunteers from Ironworkers and Teamsters for making this happen. This will definitely save lives.”
