Oceanside Resident Input Wanted to Help Shape The Future of Tourism

Oceanside, Calif.- February 16, 2023— Visit Oceanside invites Oceanside residents to share their input and help shape the future of Oceanside tourism by completing an online survey or attending an upcoming town hall on March 23. Feedback from the survey and town halls will be used in the development of Oceanside’s first ever Sustainable Tourism Master Plan (STMP); a 10-year action plan for stewarding tourism growth towards a sustainable future that benefits the economy, environment, residents and visitors.

“It’s important that our Sustainable Tourism Master Plan is reflective of all the voices in our community, so we encourage all residents to participate,” says Visit Oceanside CEO Leslee Gaul.

“The more the community participates in this process, the better we’ll be able to deliver a thoughtfully developed plan that’s based on what’s important to all stakeholders in our city.”

The resident survey is available online at www.LoveOceanside.org through March 15. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. As a thank you for participating, survey responders will be entered for a chance to win an overnight stay at Mission Pacific Hotel or Seabird Resort.

Residents can also share feedback by attending one of two town hall meetings held on Thursday, March 23. The first town hall will be held at the Oceanside Library from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The second town hall will be at the El Corazon Event Center from 4:30-6 p.m.

The goal of Oceanside’s STMP is to identify an overarching vision as well as provide a 10-year action plan for pursuing the experiences, product development, infrastructure and policies that will ensure the long-term health of the destination and a high of quality of life for residents. Oceanside is one of the first destinations in California to develop a plan utilizing the best practices and criteria set forth by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, which aims to help tourism fulfill its potential as a vehicle for social, cultural and economic good while removing and avoiding any negative impacts from its activities in terms of environmental and social impacts.

The initial phase of the project includes a sustainability assessment, destination assessment, competitive analysis and stakeholder engagement through a series of online surveys, focus groups and town halls. The plan is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
