While conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, February 26th, 2021, Escondido Police arrested one subject for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
The checkpoint was held at 2nd Avenue and Broadway from 6:00PM until Midnight. In addition, 23 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and three drivers were cited for not having insurance.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
As the state continues to work to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Escondido Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they are traveling. The Escondido Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in April.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
