On Friday, May 23, at 5:00 p.m. Palomar College will hold its annual commencement exercises at the new Football Stadium at the college’s main campus in San Marcos. Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey, Superintendent/President of the Palomar Community College District, will preside over the
ceremony.
This year’s keynote speaker will be the 2023-24 Distinguished Faculty Award Winner, William Carrasco, Ph.D. who teaches French and Spanish at Palomar. Student speaker and 2024-25
Associated Student Government President Safiya Swearingen will also address the Class of 2025. In her speech, Swearingen will remind her fellow graduates of the importance of using their voices to facilitate change.
Approximately 650 students are expected to participate in the ceremony, with 4,500 degrees and certificates approved in the 2024-25 academic year. Graduates include the 2025 Valedictorian Lea Bronson, who while working at Elizabeth Hospice, developed a project known as Last Wish Transports, in which hospice patients choose a location where they can get together with their loved ones.
Twenty-one Bonsall High School students who earned degrees and certificates while attending the Early College program also plan to participate in the ceremony.
Thirty-seven Rising Scholars, a program for formerly incarcerated students, are set to graduate.
