SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos head softball coach Stef Ewing announced on Thursday that former New Mexico State assistant coach Pam Stone will be joining her staff for the 2020 season.

Pam is a passionate coach and educator,” Ewing said. “She brings years of experience that will immediately enhance our pitching staff and softball program. I am very excited to collaborate with her and put Cougar softball on a new level.”
In her single season at NMSU, Stone’s duties included day-to-day operations and developing and implementing practice plans while focusing on pitching and defense. She was also responsible for academic support services and office work.
“I am very excited about the new opportunity to be part of an amazing institution,” Stone said. “The enthusiasm of the members of the athletic program is very contagious, and I am thrilled to join the Cougar family.”
Before her time at NMSU, Stone spent 15 years coaching at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona. While there, Stone racked up 570 wins and in 2001, her team placed third at the national tournament after posting a record of 64-7.
Prior to her time at Arizona Western, Stone began her coaching career at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. During her seven years there, she was named Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year on three occasions. For her outstanding efforts as a coach, she was inducted into the Southwestern College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.
Stone was a two-sport student-athlete, playing volleyball and softball at Point Loma from 1979-1980. While playing softball, she was named to the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women’s All-Tournament Team after posting a 0.00 ERA that season. Stone continued her education at the University of Arizona in 1982 where she competed for three years on the Wildcat softball team. She ended her career with 343 strikeouts and a 0.73 ERA at UA.
A San Diego native, Stone received her bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Science from Arizona. She also earned two master’s degrees, the first one in Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy and the second one in Psychology from the University of Phoenix.
“The CSUSM softball program is dynamic, and I am looking forward to assisting Coach Ewing in any way possible to take the program to the next level,” Stone said.
