In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. We join peace officers throughout the country to honor our fallen heroes.

In 2022, the names of 619 officers killed in the line of duty were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.

The City of Carlsbad Police Department has lost two officers in the line of duty. Officer Wesley Fox and Officer William Jack gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community of Carlsbad and we will be forever grateful. More can be found here – In Memoriam | Carlsbad, CA (carlsbadca.gov)

An honor roll of California peace officers killed in the line of duty can be found here – In the Line of Duty – California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation (camemorial.org)

A national roll call of officers who gave their lives in the line of duty can be found here – Roll Call of Heroes – National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (nleomf.org)
