Pedestrian Dies in Vehicle Collision in Oceanside

Oceanside, CA – On Tuesday December 17, 2019, at 2217 hours, the Oceanside Police Department responded to a collision involving two vehicles and pedestrian on Mission Ave at Douglas Dr. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the eastbound lanes of Mission Ave east of the intersection. The male pedestrian died at the scene. Based on witness statements and physical evidence at the scene, a 2011 Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound on Mission Ave from El Camino Real at a high rate of speed. As the Chevy approached the intersection with Douglas Dr. it entered the intersection on a red light and collided with a Ford F150 traveling northbound on Douglas Dr. on a green light. After the two vehicles collided, the Chevy backed up and continued eastbound on Mission Ave. when it struck a 65 year old male crossing in the crosswalk legally. The Chevy truck dragged the male approximately 50 yards down the street and continued without stopping.

As officers arrived on scene, they found the Chevy truck at Rancho Del Oro and Mission Ave unoccupied. Witnesses advised police the two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area and found both occupants and they were taken into custody. The driver, 27 year old Wesley Stuart of Oceanside, was later booked into Vista Detention Facility for Vehicular Manslaughter, Felony DUI, and Felony Hit and Run. The passenger was later released. The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
