On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at about 10:45 a.m., the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a call of an unknown trouble in the area of Vulcan Avenue and D St. in the City of Encinitas. Deputies responded to the area within minutes and discovered a vehicle drove off the road and struck a pedestrian at the Encinitas Transit Center.
Following the collision, the vehicle became disabled in the roadway and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot followed by several bystanders. A Sheriff’s Sergeant in the area of the collision located the driver. The male driver was subsequently arrested for Felony Hit and Run and booked into Vista Detention Facility following medical release.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with major injuries. Drugs and/or alcohol are suspected to have contributed to the collision. The pedestrian is currently unidentified.
