With Cal State San Marcos welcoming back thousands of students to a bustling campus, President Ellen Neufeldt will deliver her annual Report to the Community on Thursday, Sept. 29, highlighting the university’s role as a powerful engine for good.

About 350 individuals representing a broad cross section of regional business, nonprofit, education and government leadership are expected to attend the event.

In her remarks, Neufeldt will discuss how CSUSM is dismantling barriers to educational access and leading the conversation on student social mobility. The university last month welcomed the largest freshman class in its history at the start of a fall semester that is largely in person as the pandemic continues to recede in its impact on campus operations.

Neufeldt also will talk about significant growth at CSUSM, both now and in the future. The university this fall opened its third housing facility, North Commons, and its first student dining hall, Campus Way Cafe. Construction is expected to begin as early as December 2023 on an affordable housing and dining complex, and also on the horizon is an academic building dedicated to integrated science and engineering.

This will be the fourth Report to the Community for Neufeldt, who started in her position in July 2019. Report to the Community is an annual tradition that CSUSM has hosted since 2005.

During the event, CSUSM will present its annual Community Partner of the Year award to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. The Orange County-based educational credit union recently gave CSUSM a $132,707 gift to create a state-of-the-art active learning lab that has resulted in innovative and creative approaches to teaching and learning.

The emcee of Report to the Community will be Scotty Lombardi, senior vice president of talent acquisition at Umpqua Bank and chair of CSUSM’s University Council. Also scheduled to speak is Julia Glorioso, president of Associated Students, Inc.

Report to the Community is hosted each year by University Council, a citizen advisory board consisting of community leaders interested in the development and welfare of the university.

North City and Wells Fargo are the presidential sponsors of Report to the Community. The premier sponsor is SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. The signature sponsors are Hunter Industries and Kaiser Permanente.
