This week, I hosted the 2023 Veteran Service Member Awards at the Veterans Association of North County (VANC). The ceremony recognized the outstanding contributions of local veterans and service members who serve in the community.
The 74th Assembly District is home to over 18,000 Veterans and Service Members, which were highlighted throughout the evening. As vice chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, it’s my job to ensure that our veteran’s voices are heard in Sacramento! It was an absolute privilege to honor these hard-working Veterans and Service Members who have gone above and beyond their call of duty, creating a lasting impact on our local community
The awards and their recipients included:
Youth Leadership Achievement Award: Cadet Masher Hawkins
Excellence in the Arts: Tonya Savice, U.S. Air Force Veteran
Excellence in Entrepreneurship: Bo Khamphanthong, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
Excellence in Advocacy: Joe Roy, Marine Corps Reserves and Oceanside Police Officer
Excellence in Mentorship: Vince Hinojosa, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
Military Spouse of the Year: Arika Ferguson
Excellence in Leadership: Garry Garretson, U.S. Navy Veteran
San Diego County Veteran Volunteer of the Year: Donald Robbins, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
Orange County Veteran Volunteer of the Year: Carl James David, U.S. Army Veteran
Assemblywoman Laurie Davies represents the 74th Assembly District‚ which includes the communities of southern Orange County‚ including Dana Point‚ Laguna Niguel‚ San Clemente‚ and San Juan Capistrano plus the communities of northern San Diego County‚ including Camp Pendleton‚ Oceanside and Vista.
