Your Vista Firefighters are Honored to announce America Salmeron as a beneficiary for the 2023 Andy V. Golf Tournament: Monday November 20, 2023. Get your tickets to this great event ASAP at vistafirefighters.com. Meet America:
Seventeen year-old America Salmeron is described as a warrior and a leader-in the Pasadena Fire Department’s Explorer program. America recently graduated from Pasadena High School and was set to attend Pasadena City College on her journey to becoming a Firefighter. She is described with the Pasadena Fire Department as a “standout Explorer, who embodies everything a strong firefighter should be: kind, caring, empathetic, driven to succeed, and a willingness to never quit”.
America was riding a dune buggy in the Nevada desert when the vehicle flipped over and immediately caught on fire. The teen was trapped in the burning wreckage. She managed to pull herself out just before the dune buggy exploded, saying she was motivated by the thought of seeing her family again.
“I saw death in front of my eyes, and I didn’t know what to do, but I told myself that if I don’t get myself out of here, no one will,”
America said from her hospital bed.
America sustained second and third-degree burns to over 50% of her body.
She said that she sees her injuries as a test from God, putting her through fire itself; to see how badly she truly wants to become a firefighter. Well, if you were wondering-YES! She still does. Her road to recovery will be long and hard… Did we mention she is a WARRIOR who doesn’t quit?
Members of the Pasadena Fire Department have started a GoFundMe to help America and her family cover the costs of her long-term and extensive medical care.
