On August 16, 2018, Carlsbad Unified School District partnered with the Carlsbad Police Department to conduct an Active Shooter Event (ASE) training for approximately 60 school staff, including principals, support staff, teachers, and other members of school site safety teams. Sergeant Mike Ernst from the Carlsbad Police Department trained school staff in “options-based responses” to an emergency event on campus. The training was followed by simulated scenarios, facilitated by Lieutenant Kevin Lehan, SWAT Commander for Carlsbad Police Department. The joint exercise took place on the Calavera Hills campus.
