SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Longtime San Marcos public servant, business owner, attorney, and education advocate Councilmember Randy Walton launched his campaign for Mayor this morning.
“San Marcos has seen tremendous growth in the last two decades, and we need the right leadership to translate that growth into opportunity for our residents.” said Walton. “As your next Mayor, I am ready to build a smart, safe, and sustainable San Marcos for generations to come.”
During his time on the San Marcos City Council, Walton has focused on the care and protection of local communities. He introduced and passed the city’s first Single-Use Plastics Reduction Ordinance, successfully fought against the construction of a second Walmart that would have taken local taxpayer dollars out of San Marcos, and championed programs that supported small businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walton was first elected to public office in 2008, serving ten years on the Governing Board of the San Marcos Unified School District (SMUSD). During his time on SMUSD, Walton led transformative initiatives resulting in dramatic academic gains, including rebuilding San Marcos High School.
Walton earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, and his Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law. He has operated Walton Law Firm for more than 15 years, representing victims of injury, wrongful death, and nursing home neglect in civil court. He is also a founder of The San Marcos Promise, a non-profit dedicated to creating pathways to college and career for San Marcos students. Walton and his wife Kristen own a local farm, Walton Lemon Farm, a citrus grove that produces organic lemons.
