In an effort to support our local and regional water quality, the City of San Marcos proudly partners with the San Diego County-based program Project Clean Water. The regional water quality program consists of 21 agencies and 18 cities within San Diego County. Collectively, the government and public partners focus on protecting water quality through increasing community awareness and education.
Everyone uses water in their life! Whether you are quenching your thirst, watering plants or filling your pet’s water dish, we expect water in our households to be clean and safe for all uses.
Clean water is crucial to a healthy community. When water flows across the ground, often because of rainfall, it collects runoff pollutants including trash, chemicals, pet waste and more. The untreated water enters storm drains which are emptied into our waterways. The pollutant-filled water can contaminate our creeks, rivers, lagoons and ocean – leaving our community at risk of insufficient water quality.
The City of San Marcos is committed to taking steps now to protect our water quality, so we do not face repercussions in the future. Join us by taking Project Clean Water’s “52 Ways to Love Your Water” pledge. Here are a few examples of small actions you can take to love your water and keep our watershed clean.
Invest in a reusable water bottle
Reduce your watering time or adjust your sprinkler water cycle
Check your car for leaks
Switch to organic fertilizer and cut down on how much you use
Grab a trash bag and go for a hike – pick up trash you see along the way
“Successful storm water management requires public support and participation. We encourage you to join San Marcos and take the ‘52 Ways to Love Your Water’ pledge,” said Reed Thornberry, watershed program manager. “Our individual actions from the 52-week pledge will preserve our safe and clean water quality and benefit the lives of future generations.”
The city aims to equip water users with information and resources to support safe water practices in commercial, construction, educational, industrial, municipal and residential areas. All members of our community can support and take ownership in protecting our local water quality.
