San Marcos Residents Protest Recovery Center

SAN MARCOS — Hundreds of residents are furious about a proposed wellness and recovery center between San Marcos Middle School and Palomar College.

More than a dozen residents, most of whom are parents, spoke at the April 22 City Council meeting expressing frustration, anger and more regarding Interfaith Community Services’ proposed 150-bed facility. The council approved a resolution regarding memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Interfaith and the Mission San Marcos Unified Methodist Church several weeks ago.

One problem for the speakers and hundreds or more residents is the facility’s location. The project would be located on five acres between San Marcos Middle School and Palomar College on Mission Avenue.

Many, if not all the public speakers, plus comments on social media, worried about the safety and security of students, along with others at Mission Sports Park across the street.
