On February 11, 2020, at approximately 7:23 am, deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian at the stop sign controlled intersection of Via Vera Cruz and Applewilde Drive, in the city of San Marcos. Witnesses observed a 67-year- old female pedestrian enter the east side marked crosswalk of northbound Via Vera Cruz. At that moment, a silver Honda Odyssey minivan driven by a 52-year-old female was crossing the intersection eastbound on Applewilde Drive. The Honda collided with the female pedestrian who was in the marked crosswalk. The female driver immediately pulled to the side of the roadway where she remained on scene and was later contacted by deputies. Witnesses and concerned citizens provided medical treatment to the conscious and visibly injured female pedestrian while awaiting the arrival of emergency personnel.

San Marcos Fire and Paramedic Units responded and transported the injured female pedestrian to Palomar Medical Center’s Trauma Unit. The female pedestrian sustained serious; however; non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor in this collision.

The San Diego Sheriff’s San Marcos Station’s Traffic Division is investigating the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the collision can contact Deputy David J. Arnold Sr. at 760-510-5200.
