On Sunday, October 1, an unknown individual submitted a post on the San Marcos Elementary School’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account of a shooting scheduled to happen at the school. Sheriff’s Deputies took a crime report of the threat. School Resource Deputies, as well as the Juvenile Detective from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station, were also contacted to assist with the investigation.

Detectives worked the case for several hours and were able to pinpoint the original post from X. The post originated from a home located in San Marcos. A thorough investigation led detectives to determine the school threat was not credible. There is no one in custody at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, October 2, out of an abundance of caution, deputies conducted extra patrols around San Marcos Elementary School before and after school.

The safety of our school children is a priority for the Sheriff’s Department and we take all such threats seriously. We want to remind students that if they hear any threats or even potential violence, they can always approach our school resource deputies or call the Anonymous Student Speaking Out Hotline at (888) 580-8477.
