ESCONDIDO — The lights have gone out on a controversial battery energy storage system in Eden Valley.
The Seguro Energy Storage project was proposed by Virginia-based Applied Energy Services near the unincorporated communities of Eden Valley and Harmony Grove between Escondido and San Marcos. AES proposed a 320-megawatt storage facility with 1,280 MW of capacity on 22.5 acres, but submitted a formal request to San Diego County on Friday to withdraw its application, according to reports.
Residents, though, fiercely pushed back and protested, taking their objections to the Escondido City Council and San Diego County Board of Supervisors. In December 2024, the supervisors deferred to the county fire chief….
