CARLSBAD, Calif. — On Aug. 17, 2018 at 20:13 p.m., Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to Carlsbad Blvd and Sycamore Ave regarding a report of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. Upon arrival, Officers located one male lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The injured pedestrian was transported by the Fire Department to a local area hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the pedestrian was proceeding eastbound in the crosswalk when the driver of a Toyota Prius was travelling northbound on Carlsbad Blvd and struck the pedestrian. The driver of the Prius travelling with two family members remained at the scene. Alcohol intoxication is not suspected to be involved in the collision. The investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
The pedestrian has been identified as a 60 year-old male.
The driver of the vehicle has also been identified as a 60 year-old male.
A one block area of northbound Carlsbad Blvd from Chestnut Ave to Sycamore Ave is closed during the investigation.
