If you plan to visit downtown Carlsbad or the beach this weekend, be aware that several streets will be closed Sunday for the Carlsbad 5000 and the Junior Carlsbad, and one block will also be closed Saturday for race-related activities.
To avoid delays, please take alternate routes. Here are the roads that will be closed:
Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22:
Roosevelt Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Grand Avenue – 6 a.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday
Sunday, May 22:
Carlsbad Village Drive from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street – 4:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Harding Street – 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Harding Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Grand Avenue – 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Jefferson Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Home Avenue –5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Madison Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Arbuckle Place –5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
State Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Grand Avenue – 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Carlsbad Boulevard from State Street to Tamarack Avenue – 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Madison Street from Carlsbad Village Drive to Grand Avenue – from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The City of Carlsbad Police Department and volunteers will help cars needing to get in or out of closed or partially closed areas, as safety allows. Those who need to get in or out of the race area during the event can use nearby streets not affected by race-day closures.
The Carlsbad 5000 has been a popular running event in Carlsbad since 1986. This weekend’s races are expected to draw approximately 9,000 spectators and 6,000 participants from all over the U.S. and many foreign countries.
