Shop Local on Small Business Saturday, November 24

The City of Vista encourages residents to “Shop Local and Shop Small” on November 24, the day designated as Small Business Saturday. The shopping holiday celebrates and helps residents discover small businesses locally in the city.

“Encouraging people to ‘Shop Local’ helps bring more holiday shopping to local, small businesses in our city,” said Kevin Ham, City of Vista Director of Economic Development. “Unlike Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which focus on larger retailers and e-commerce stores, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers to shop at predominantly small and local retailers and to use small, local services such as restaurants and other independent local businesses.”

The Shop Local promotion provides an occasion to inform the community about the advantages to shopping somewhere other than a large retail store where profits are redirected to another state. “Shopping local benefits the entire economy of the city,” Ham said. “When our small businesses thrive, our city also thrives.”

Much of the City’s budget comes from local sales tax – which funds parks, street repairs and road improvements, youth and senior programs, fire and law enforcement, and other important public amenities – that keep the city operating and enhance the quality of life for Vista residents and businesses.
