With the Governor’s reinstatement of the State-mandated Single Use Plastic Bag Ban (SB 270), grocery stores, retail stores with pharmacy, convenience stores, and liquor stores should no longer be distributing single-use carryout bags and should be charging customers when providing reusable grocery bags. Customers can safely use their reusable bags by following a few safety guidelines: Keep reusable bags inside the cart and don’t allow cashiers to come into contact with your reusable bags; Do not place reusable bags on the conveyor belt or checkout stand; Pack your own groceries into your reusable bags; Wash your reusable bags regularly. If you forget to bring your own bag, you can either purchase a reusable bag from the store, or you can pack your items back into the cart, and then into your vehicle.
