San Marcos is pleased to roll out a new solar permit process that will offer residents an expedited experience. The Building and Code Compliance Division is offering an online system for applicants to complete an eligibility checklist and submit a permit application and plans for residential rooftop solar systems.
Through this new process, solar installers may use City-provided standard plans and a self-certification checklist to receive an over-the-counter permit. This process will reduce the time to acquire these permits since City staff will not need to review plans. With solar permits accounting for approximately 30% of permits issued by the City within the first half of 2022, the City anticipates this expedited process will create a better experience for the solar industry doing business in San Marcos.
