South Vista Communities Call to Action Re: American Airline at Palomar Airport

Last week we told you about the Board of Supervisors” (BOS) Jan 8th decision to allow American Airlines (AA) to fly the Embraer-175 aircraft out of Palomar Airport starting on Feb 13th, without any consult with the host City of Carlsbad, disrespectful of any Local Control by the host city, and in opposition to the City of Vista’s recent resolution against these flights out of Palomar. E-comments to the BOS ran approximately 2 to 1 in opposition to the AA contract. C4FA believes this was a tone-deaf and short-sighted decision by the BOS based on limited and possibly erroneous information provided by county staff.

A few of the most obvious facts:

· We can see from the Embraer-175 Manufacturer’s Spec Sheet that Palomar’s runway is too short to ensure the safety of the aircraft AA will fly. In fact, 5 aircraft tie-downs have already been removed so that the E175 jet can maneuver the airfield space. This jet is simply too big for Palomar Airport.

· We are disappointed that the BOS has no regard for their own Voluntary Noise Abatement Plan (VNAP) and no respect for all those under the departure flight paths, who will miss precious sleep because AA’s contract says they will begin service at 6:15am every day of the week.

It’s not over. C4FA is evaluating its options. We need your help and your donations to conyinue our efforts.

Call to Action:

1. PLEASE DONATE – Legal analysis and litigation are expensive and time is short. Every donation counts, whether it’s $5, $500 or $5000.

2. Email the Carlsbad City Council at council@carlsbadca.gov and ask them to:

o Assert the local control granted to the City by the Court

o Fight to keep Palomar small and friendly. Commercial service is fine, if the airlines respect the size of our airport, our flight paths, and our quiet hours.

And finally, a huge THANK YOU to all who have donated. We can’t do it without you. We are a 100% Volunteer Organization. Please help us to keep Palomar Airport small and friendly, as it was intended to be.
