CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 93-77, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference game on Sunday night.
CSUSM trailed by a point, 36-35, at halftime but shot 64.29 percent going 18-of-28 in the second half to help outscore CSUDH 58-41 in last 20 minutes of play to secure the win.
The Cougars improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in CCAA play while the Toros drop to 5-8, 2-4 CCAA.
Senior Ethan Alvano finished with a team-high 34 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe while collecting six steals and playing a game-high 39 minutes. Junior Dalton Soffer totaled 16 points and made four 3-pointers while seniors Josh Spiers and Brian Wright finished with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Senior Joe Boyd recorded his fifth overall and second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the game.
CSUSM dominated many categories including, points in the paint (44-12), points off turnovers (22-8) and the rebounding battle (38-36).
The Toros’ Deshay Gipson recorded a game-high 42 points after going 12-of-20 from the field including nine 3-pointers (9-of-14) in 35 minutes played.
The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 as they head on the road to take on CCAA opponent Cal State L.A. at 7:30 p.m.
