Applications are now being accepted for the spring session of the Carlsbad Student Leader Academy, a leadership development program for students coordinated by the City of Carlsbad, The YouSchool and the Servant Leadership Institute. The academy addresses issues affecting youth in Carlsbad and further develops emerging youth leaders through civic education and service learning projects.
Carlsbad residents in grades ninth through 12th attending any high school can apply online.
Applications are due by Friday, March 22, and there is no cost to apply or participate in the program.
Residents selected for the fall session of the Carlsbad Student Leader Academy will be notified by mail starting Monday, April 1.
The 10-week program will be held once a week for two hours in the evening, Monday, April 15 through Monday, June 17.
Some of the academy graduates shared, “I feel more confident in my abilities to lead and have a voice” and “I realized that I really do want to make a difference in the world.”
“The Carlsbad Student Leader Academy challenges high school students to take an in-depth look at who they are and what kind of life they want to lead,” said Debbie Fountain, the City of Carlsbad’s Community & Economic Development Director. “We provide a collaborative setting where students work with their peers to determine how they can best contribute to building a better Carlsbad community.”
