Starting Sunday, May 18, the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane and the Georgina Cole Library will once again offer Sunday hours, expanding community access to library services in time for summer.

During the midyear budget update on February 25, the City Council approved funding to reopen libraries on Sundays for the first time since hours were reduced at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While libraries had not been open on Sundays, the library has progressively added hours back into the schedule since the full closure amid the pandemic.
In recent years, the city has received requests from the community to reopen the library on Sundays.
In the past few months, the city has arranged staff and scheduling to prepare for the reopening.
Once Sunday operations restart, Carlsbad will be in the top 5% of branches in the county in terms of the number of hours open.
