Suspects Were Arrested for Murder in Vista

The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.

Homicide detectives continued their investigation and were able to identify all the suspects involved in this incident. The suspects were identified as juveniles of 15 or 16 years of age. All the suspects were arrested and booked into the Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility on March 1, 2020. They were arrested for a violation of 187(a) PC – Murder.

The victim’s family has been notified of his death. He has been identified as Joshua A. Virginia, a forty-five-year-old resident of Oceanside. The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today. The cause of death is multiple stab wounds and the manner of death is homicide.

Information from prior release:
On February 29, 2020, at 10:00 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call of a reported fight at the intersection of W. Vista Way and Valencia Drive, in the city of Vista. Deputies arrived and found an adult male laying on the sidewalk with severe injuries. Paramedics arrived to render aid and subsequently transported the male to a local hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, he was pronounced
deceased at 10:36 p.m. Witnesses told deputies that three adult male Hispanics and one adult female Hispanic had attacked the victim at the intersection. All of the suspects were believed to be in their early 20’s. The victim had fallen to the ground in the street but managed to crawl onto the sidewalk before collapsing. Deputies canvased the area looking for the possible suspects but were unable to locate them.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation.
