Kicking off the San Diego Scottish Highland Games, Storytellers of San Diego follow tradition and explore the virtues and vicissitudes of the Celtic tales from Scotland and its islands, live and personal, uproarious and reflective by turns.

Featured storytellers will each take you on an enchanting journey regaling all with tales of feuding clans, clever women, brave warriors, ghosts, selkies, power swords, and strong magic. Whether you are a fan of “Outlander” and know all the Highlanders’ pastimes, and adore Balmoral Castle, or have never heard about this Gathering of the Clans, you can learn a few things about Scottish history and culture uncovered and excavated by our engaging storytellers.

Scheduled to participate are storytellers Marilyn McPhie, Melanie Lococo, Aunt Li-Anne, James Nelson-Lucas, Mindy Donner, and introducing Catherine Bonin. Fiddler Rachel Amov, and Lissette Ryan, who is featured on harp, as well as stories, complement the evening’s offerings.

Last but not least, tasty, beguiling shortbread is on hand and donated by McLaren’s Shortbread.

Children’s stories will be presented at no charge on June 24 by Marilyn McPhie, and on June 25 by Aunt Li-Anne, both days at 11:30am and 3:40pm in the children’s area.
