Thank God Its Friday Concerts Begin June 22nd Save the Dates

The City of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks begin June 22 at Stagecoach Community Park, located at 3420 Camino de los Coches. The outdoor concert series runs every Friday through Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at community parks throughout the city. Venues open to the public at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

At a Glance

The 2018 season lineup is below. Preshow entertainment is planned for select concerts, as noted below. Preshow entertainment begins at 5 p.m. Additional details will be added to the website as they become available.

Onsite parking is reserved for accessible parking and event staff. Concert attendees are encouraged to take advantage of free shuttles from Poinsettia, Calavera Hills and Alga Norte community parks from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Everyone who rides the shuttle will receive a free opportunity drawing ticket for prizes from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.

June 22 Stoney B Blues (Blues)

Born in Chicago, Stoney B has over 45 years experience as an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and recording artist of the Blues. Stoney plays festivals and events all over, including the Calgary International Blues Festival, Orange County Film Festival, Baja Blues Festival, Tijuana Jazz and Blues Festival, to name a few.

June 29 80z All-Stars (80s hits)*

The 80z All-Stars are the premiere, most complete 80ss tribute act in Southern California. Devo to Bon Jovi to Rick Springfield to Duran Duran, the band covers them all. Join in the 80z All-Stars madness and get ready to relive the days of big hair, bright colors and jelly bracelets!

July 6 Lao Tizer (Jazz)

With ensembles that range from duets to 15 members, The Lao Tizer band has reached new heights of jazz and world-fusion excellence and exuberance through their growth and experimentation, as evident in their upcoming album Songs from the Swinghouse.

July 13 The Detroit Underground (Soul/Motown)

This powerful combination of dedicated musicians crank out tunes from artists such as Earth, Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder, as well as great Motown hits and heart-felt ballads.

July 20 The Mighty Untouchables (Top 40)*

This supreme multicultural mix of musicians and singers are guaranteed to please audiences of all tastes with their extensive and diverse collection of material. Their repertoire includes songs from Bruno Mars, Earth, Wind & Fire, Four Tops, Michael Jackson, Prince and Stevie Wonder just to name a few!

July 27 Jonathan Lee Band (West Coast Country)

The Jonathan Lee Band is West Coast Country, a mix of country and rock with a little bit of soul. When Jonathan performs, you can’t help but think of Johnny Cash, John Cougar and Bruce Springsteen.

Aug. 3 Phat Cat Swinger (Swing)*

The band’s ingenious selection of songs ranges from Sinatra to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy while even visiting songs by Elton John and more. No matter what this band plays, you’ll be smiling almost instantly.

Aug. 10 Orgōne (Funk/Soul/Afro-Disco)

Now and always, Orgōne delivers dirty, organic, California soul with heart; music that grabs you by the collar, pulls you to your feet and shoves you onto the dance floor.

Aug. 17 Poncho Sanchez (Latin)*

For more than three decades as both a leader and a sideman, conguero Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of straightahead jazz, gritty soul music and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources. Preshow Entertainment: Winners from the Carlsbad City Library’s Teen Talent Shows will perform on stage. For more information about the Teen Talent Shows, visit www.carlsbadlibrary.org.

Loading zones to drop off your food and gear, and for rideshare services will be available and clearly marked.
Artists of all ages also can take part in Family Open Studios at TGIF, a free, hands-on art activity.
Guests can buy opportunity drawing tickets from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, with great prize packages and funds going to support future arts and cultural events in Carlsbad.

TGIF Concerts in the Parks are presented by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office with generous support from Carlsbad Friends of the Arts.

Since 1986, the Cultural Arts Office has worked to make arts and culture an integral and inspiring part of the community’s life, through programs and services such as TGIF Concerts in the Parks, Family Open Studios, Three-Part-Art, the William D.
