To help herald the safe reopening of businesses in Carlsbad Village, as directed by the County of San Diego, the city has provided its businesses with “Open For Business” window signs. They are like a beacon, reminding shoppers and diners that our businesses are open in the Village, are committed to the county’s safety protocols and proper signage posting, and are staying up to date on the changing landscape. The city has provided free disposable masks to businesses from the start of the reopening to help those with customers who might have forgotten. They are allowing restaurants to utilize their parking lots for additional outdoor seating, and are even allowing businesses to secure permits to activate sidewalks in some instances. They are continuing to explore the possibility of turning State Street into a pedestrian-only area on certain nights during set hours as some other cities have done, all to allow more space. And, they’ve implemented a $5 million economic revitalization and recovery initiative that includes both a $250,000 marketing and promotion campaign to help bring back tourism and a $4.4 million business loan program specifically for the small businesses in Carlsbad.
